Prevost Recalls 81 Coaches Due to Accelerator Pedal Spring Defect

Prevost is recalling 81 model year 2008-2010 coaches because broken accelerator pedal springs may prevent the pedal from returning to idle, increasing crash risk.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (unintended acceleration) where injury has not yet been reported, fitting the High severity criteria.

Plain-English summary

Prevost Cars, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2009-2010 H3-45, model year 2009 H3-41, X3-45, and XLII Converted Coach Shells, model year 2009 XLII-45 Entertainer Converted Coach, and model year 2008 H3-VIP coach shells. The recall covers 81 vehicles in total.

The mechanical springs used to return the accelerator pedal to idle after the driver lifts their foot off the pedal may break. If the springs break, the pedal may not return to idle once the driver lifts their foot off the pedal. This unintended acceleration increases the risk of a crash.

Prevost will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected accelerator pedals, free of charge. The recall began on December 17, 2013. Owners may contact Prevost at 1-418-883-2888. Prevost's recall number is SR13-72. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
