Nissan Recalls 2014 Pathfinders for Passenger Air Bag Deployment Defect

Nissan is recalling 2,310 2014 Pathfinders because a manufacturing error may prevent the passenger air bag from deploying properly in a crash.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a safety-critical component (air bag) that may fail to deploy, posing a risk of personal injury in a crash, but no injuries or fatalities have been reported.

Plain-English summary

Nissan North America, Inc. is recalling certain 2014 Nissan Pathfinder vehicles manufactured between July 25, 2013, and September 5, 2013. This recall affects 2,310 vehicles equipped with Almond interiors. The defect involves the instrument panel tear seam on the passenger frontal air bag, which was incorrectly cut on the back side of the instrument panel.

This manufacturing error could cause the passenger frontal air bag to not deploy properly in the event of a crash. If the air bag fails to deploy correctly, it may increase the risk of personal injury to the passenger.

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected instrument panel assemblies free of charge. The recall began on November 18, 2013. Owners may contact Nissan Customer Service at 1-800-647-7261 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
