Prevost Recalls Coaches Due to Fire Suppression System Malfunction

Prevost is recalling 2010-2013 H3, X3, and MTH XLII-45E coaches because the fire suppression system may activate unintentionally, causing an unplanned stop.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported, as the defect could cause an unplanned stop leading to a crash or personal injury.

Plain-English summary

Prevost Cars, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2010-2013 H3 and X3 coaches and MTH XLII-45E coach shells manufactured between June 29, 2009, and June 4, 2012. These vehicles are equipped with an Automatic Fire Detection and Suppression System (AFSS). The recall involves 261 units.

The recall is necessary because the AFSS could unintentionally activate due to wear of the linear thermal detection cable. An unintended activation causes the vehicle to come to an unplanned stop, which could increase the risk of a vehicle crash or personal injury.

Prevost will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and repair the linear thermal detector by adding a protective sheath, free of charge. The recall began in March 2013. Owners may contact Prevost at 1-418-883-2888 x 6558 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
