Plain-English summary
Fastec Industrial Corp. is recalling certain model 43610, 40610, and 44610 door locks manufactured between January 2006 and April 2013. These locks, which feature a keyed paddle handle and deadbolt, are used in recreational vehicles. The recall affects approximately 2.86 million units.
The defect involves the possibility of removing the key in a way that jams the deadbolt in locks with certain key codes. If the deadbolt jams, the interior side of the door lock may also jam. This could leave a person inside the recreational vehicle locked in and unable to exit without using the emergency exit, increasing the risk of injury.
Fastec Industrial will notify original equipment door and recreational vehicle manufacturers and consumers of record on how to determine if they have a defective lock. Consumers of record will be sent replacement cylinders with instructions free of charge. Vehicle manufacturers will also notify their consumers. The recall began in September 2013. Owners may contact Fastec Industrial at 1-800-837-2505 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
