Nova Bus is recalling certain model year 2010 LFS transit buses manufactured between June 10, 2010, and November 11, 2010. These vehicles are equipped with flush mounted windows and Ricon 3-Minute Urban Transit Bus egress window sets. The recall affects 26 vehicles.
The defect involves the material composition used to cast the emergency egress window handles. The incorrect composition results in embrittlement and reduced material strength, causing the handles to break before the window latch is released. If the egress window fails during an emergency, passengers may be trapped in the bus, placing them at risk of injury.
Nova Bus will notify owners, and dealers will replace the egress handles free of charge. Ricon will supply the replacement handles. The recall began on December 10, 2012. Owners may contact Nova Bus at 1-877-999-8808 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
