What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The source text explicitly states that the defect may lead to a fire, which may cause property damage, personal injury, or death, meeting the rubric criteria for significant injury/property-damage reports or structural vehicle defects.
Plain-English summary
Navistar, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2005-2011 International 3200IM and model year 2007-2011 IC Bus Model HC buses manufactured between August 16, 2004, and May 13, 2010. The recall involves a defect where the rear brake line may be pinched by a frame member when the bus kneeling feature is activated. This pinching can cause the rear brakes to drag.
Brakes that drag could overheat and may lead to a fire, which may cause property damage, personal injury, or death. Navistar will notify owners, and dealers will install a clip to ensure that the brake line cannot be pinched. This service will be performed free of charge.
The safety recall began on April 27, 2012. Owners may contact Navistar at 1-800-448-7825. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or go to http://www.safercar.gov.
