Plain-English summary
Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2012 Outlander Sport vehicles manufactured between November 9, 2011, and December 16, 2011. The recall addresses a defect in the turn signal levers that were not manufactured correctly, causing the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108 regarding lamps and associated equipment.
The defective levers may cause the auto-cancel function of the turn signal to become inoperative. This means the turn signal may continue to flash after the vehicle has completed a turn, providing inaccurate indications of the driver's intended maneuvers to other road users. This improper signaling increases the risk of a crash between vehicles.
No vehicles with this potential condition have been retailed to customers. Consequently, no recall bulletin or owner letters will be prepared. Dealers will inspect the turn signal lever and replace it with a new one free of charge. Owners may contact Mitsubishi at 1-800-222-0037 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
