Plain-English summary
BMW of North America, LLC is recalling certain model year 2011 Mini Cooper Clubman and Cooper S Clubman vehicles manufactured between February 8, 2011, and May 11, 2011. The recall addresses a failure to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 101 regarding controls and displays. These vehicles are equipped with a European specification tachometer that uses brake-system telltales and symbols that do not meet U.S. requirements.
The defect involves the display of the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) warning symbol. In the event of an ABS system problem, only the outer circle of the symbol illuminates, rather than the ABS letters. This may prevent the driver from being aware of an ABS problem, which increases the risk of a crash.
All affected vehicles have already been repaired at dealerships. Consequently, an owner notification letter will not be issued for this campaign. Owners may contact BMW at 1-800-525-7417 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 for more information.
