2026 BMW X2 and Related Vehicles Seat Belt Retractor Failure Recall
BMW is recalling certain 2026 X2, X1, 2 Series Gran Coupe, and Mini Countryman S ALL4 vehicles because the rear seat belt retractors may not lock properly due to damage during production, increasing injury risk in a crash.

Plain-English summary
BMW of North America, LLC is recalling certain 2026 BMW X2, X1, and 2 Series Gran Coupe vehicles, as well as 2026 Mini Countryman S ALL4 vehicles. The housing pin in the rear seat belt retractors (left and/or right) may have been damaged during production, causing the retractor to fail to lock the seat belt as intended. These vehicles do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies."
A damaged seat belt retractor may not properly restrain an occupant during a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Approximately 1,024 vehicles are potentially affected by this recall.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the rear seat belts free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 18, 2025. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall are searchable on NHTSA.gov as of December 12, 2025.
