What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect in the braking system that could cause loss of braking and result in a vehicle crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Kalyn is recalling certain model year 2011 12TSAB, 12TSAF, KDP, KSHRG, LBO, and MHU100 flatbed trailers manufactured between January 2011 and March 2011. These vehicles are equipped with Gunite automatic slack adjusters that may have inadequate structural integrity due to an incomplete "knitting" of the iron during the casting process.
The defect could cause the slack adjuster housing to break at the handle under normal operating loads. If the slack adjusters crack under normal braking conditions, it could result in a loss of braking, which could lead to a vehicle crash.
Owners should contact Kalyn or their dealer to have the subject slack adjusters replaced free of charge. The safety recall began on March 30, 2011. Owners may also contact Gunite at 1-855-857-8645 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
