Volkswagen of America, Inc. is recalling certain 2010 model year New Beetle and New Beetle Convertible vehicles manufactured between September 1, 2010, and September 22, 2010. The recall addresses a failure to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards No. 208, "Occupant Crash Protection," which took effect on September 1, 2010.
The affected vehicles do not meet the requirements that went into effect on September 1, 2010. As a result, these vehicles may not offer the protection attendant to those federal safety requirements.
The safety recall began on January 28, 2011. Dealers will offer to replace the affected vehicle with a comparable vehicle that was produced prior to September 1, 2010, which is compliant with FMVSS 208 requirements.
