What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (missing emergency egress) where injury has not yet been reported, fitting the 'High' severity criteria for theoretical hazards without confirmed incidents.

Plain-English summary

Fleetwood RV, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2010 Encounter and model year 2011 Storm 28MS Class A motor homes manufactured between December 16, 2009, and July 1, 2010. The recall addresses a defect where an emergency egress window was not installed in the road-side bedroom wall.

In the event of a fire or other emergency, occupants in the bedroom area must exit through the door-side bedroom emergency egress window or the forward entry door. If both the entry door and the door-side emergency egress windows are blocked, there is no way out of the motor home, which increases the risk of personal injury.

Dealers will remove the existing road-side window and replace it with an emergency egress window at no charge. The safety recall began on July 28, 2010. Owners may contact Fleetwood Owner Relations at 800-509-3418 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
