Goshen Coach Recalls Buses with Defective Ricon Lift Restraint Belts

Goshen Coach has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of a defect in certain model year 2008-2010 Pacer LS, Pacer Ltd, Pacer II, GC II, and Sentinel buses fitted with Ricon Public Use Lifts. The defect involves the restraint belt on these lifts, which is designed to prevent the lift from moving unless the belt tongue is fully engaged and latched in the buckle. Ricon discovered that it is possible for an operator to insert the belt tongue into the buckle without fully engaging the latching mechanism. In this scenario, the belt appears to be latched, and the operator could run the lift even if the restraint is not secure.

If the restraint belt tongue is not fully engaged and latched, the lift may operate with an occupant on the platform. The user of the lift could be injured should the lift move without the restraint belt properly buckled. The recall began on April 9, 2010, and affects 529 vehicles.

Goshen Coach is working with Ricon, which is handling the remedy for this campaign. Ricon will provide customers with a warning decal and a DVD-based training aid.
