Champion and Goshen Shuttle Bus Roof Hatch Handle Recall

Champion Bus is recalling 2019 shuttle buses because the roof emergency hatch handle may break, preventing easy opening during an emergency.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural defect in an emergency egress component that increases the risk of injury, but no injuries or deaths have been reported in the source text.

Plain-English summary

Champion Bus, Inc. is recalling certain 2019 Challenger, Crusader, Defender, and LF Transport, as well as Goshen G-Force, Impulse, and Pacer II shuttle buses. These vehicles are equipped with Prolo roof emergency escape hatches. The recall affects 362 units.

Due to a manufacturing issue, the external handle on the roof hatch may unexpectedly break under reasonable use. If the handle breaks, the hatch cannot be easily opened from outside the vehicle in the event of an emergency, which increases the risk of injury.

Champion will notify owners, and dealers will replace the handle free of charge. The recall began on September 16, 2019. Owners may contact Champion customer service at 1-810-724-1753, extension 415, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
