Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (tipping hazard) where injury has been reported (one minor injury), fitting the High severity criteria for products with reported injuries but no severe harm or fatalities.
Plain-English summary
Bush Industries Inc. is recalling approximately 100,000 laminated wood television carts in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recalled carts are black (model 5414) or brown (model 5014), measure 28 inches wide, 26.25 inches high with wheels, and 15.5 inches deep. They were sold ready-to-assemble from June 1992 through August 1998 at discount, home, and furniture stores nationwide for approximately $60 to $100.
The hazard is that the carts can tip over. If a cart tips, the television may fall, resulting in injury to children or adults. Bush Industries has received two reports of the carts tipping over and the television falling, which resulted in one minor injury.
Consumers should immediately remove their televisions and VCRs from the carts. They should call Bush Industries at (800) 950-4782 between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. EDT Monday through Friday, or visit www.bushfurniture.com, to identify if their cart is part of the recall. Bush Industries will provide a free repair kit to help prevent the cart from tipping over.
