Plain-English summary

Luxor Workspaces LLC of Waukegan, Illinois is recalling approximately 84,700 audiovisual (A/V) carts sold since at least the early 1980s. The recalled carts become unstable when loaded with heavy objects, particularly cathode-ray tube (CRT) televisions, creating a tip-over hazard to children that can result in serious injury or death.

This recall involves three cart base models: the WT42 "Tuffy" plastic cart sold under the H. Wilson brand; the W42/AVJ42/SS-AVJ42 metal cart; and the LP-DUO/TPDUOEQ plastic cart. All are 3-shelf carts sold through various online retailers including Amazon, 123Stores, and Grainger for between $125 and $250. A detailed list of affected model numbers is available on the CPSC website.

Three children have died and one child was seriously injured in incidents where recalled A/V carts carrying a CRT television tipped over and landed on them. These incidents occurred between 2006 and 2016. Additionally, approximately 1,650 units were sold in Canada.

Consumers should stop using the recalled carts immediately and contact Luxor for a free repair. Luxor will provide metal ballast kits to be installed on the lower shelf to add stability and weight, along with new warning labels cautioning users to place no more than 25 lbs. on each shelf.
