Graco Children's Products Inc. is recalling approximately 564,000 Graco carriers and carrier/swing seats in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall involves specific model numbers manufactured between August 1, 1993, and August 31, 1997. The hazard is that the handle on the seats can unlock unexpectedly, which can cause an infant to fall and be injured.
Graco has received 45 reports of handles unlocking unexpectedly, including reports of four skull fractures and two concussions. The affected products were sold nationwide from August 1993 through August 1997 at juvenile product and major discount stores, such as Toys R Us and Service Merchandise. The carriers sold for about $30 and the carrier/swings sold for about $100.
Consumers should stop using the recalled carrier and carrier/swing seat immediately. Graco is offering a free repair kit that locks the handle in position, which can be installed easily by consumers without tools. Consumers who previously contacted Graco regarding these models will receive the kit directly.
