Graco Recalls Travel Lite Swings Due to Handle and Seatbelt Failures
Graco is recalling 140,000 Travel Lite Swings because the handle can drop on a child's head or the seatbelt can fail to prevent falls.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product with reported injuries (bloody/swollen lips, bruises) but no reported deaths or serious injuries, fitting the High severity criteria for products where injury has been reported but is not classified as severe or critical.
Plain-English summary
Graco Children's Products is recalling approximately 140,000 Travel Lite portable swings sold at discount, department, and juvenile stores from June 2003 through June 2004. The recalled swings include model numbers 1850JJP, 1850JGB, and 1870DAL, manufactured between May 2003 and December 11, 2003. These units feature an adjustable reclining seat, a rotating handle, and a canopy.
The recall was issued because the swing's carrying handle can fail to stay in place, potentially dropping or being pushed down to hit a child in the head. Additionally, the 3-point seatbelt may fail to prevent a child from leaning forward or to the side, posing a risk that the child could fall and strike their head on the floor or the swing's frame. Graco has received about 28 reports of the handle falling on young children and 100 reports of children falling forward or to the side. Reported injuries include bloody or swollen lips, red marks, bumps, and bruises.
Consumers with a Travel Lite swing equipped with a 3-point seatbelt (waist belt and crotch strap only) or without a red handle release button should stop using the product immediately. They should contact Graco toll-free at (800) 345-4109 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit www.gracobaby.com to obtain a free repair kit.
