Dynacraft Recalls Magna High Impact Bicycles Due to Crank Detachment Risk
Dynacraft is recalling over 19,900 Magna High Impact bicycles because the left crank can detach, posing a risk of injury to riders.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has been reported (cuts and bruises from falls), but no serious injuries or fatalities are documented, fitting the 'High' severity criteria for reported minor injuries without critical harm.
Plain-English summary
Dynacraft Industries Inc. is voluntarily recalling over 19,900 men's model 8546-23 MAGNA High Impact mountain-style bicycles in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall addresses a defect where the bicycle's left crank, which connects the pedal to the frame, can loosen and detach. If the crank detaches, the rider's leg can be injured by contact with the crank, or the rider can lose control of the bike, fall, and be injured.
Dynacraft has received four reports of the left crank loosening and detaching, resulting in riders falling from the bicycles and sustaining cuts or bruises. The affected bicycles have a 26-inch wheel diameter, 18 speeds, and a metallic red frame with "MAGNA" and "High Impact" markings. Specific serial numbers are listed in the official recall notice.
Toys "R" Us stores nationwide were the sole distributors of these bicycles, which were sold from April 1997 through June 1997 for about $100. Consumers should stop using these bicycles immediately and contact Dynacraft Industries Inc. at (800) 551-0032 or their local Toys "R" Us store to arrange for a free repair of the crank.
