The recall involves metal tree stands with a grid platform and a camouflage canvas seat, secured to trees by a 67-inch black nylon strap and a 4-inch gray nylon strap attached to a buckle.

The recall is due to a defect where the tree stand's buckle may have a sharp edge that can fray and break the gray nylon strap. If the strap breaks, the stand can fall from the tree, potentially causing serious injury, especially if the user is not wearing a safety belt. Bass Pro Shops received three reports of straps fraying or breaking, and the manufacturer, Warren & Sweat, received 25 additional reports. One person fell from a tree, resulting in leg and ankle fractures and a sprained lower back.

The tree stands were sold nationwide by sporting goods stores and through the Bass Pro Shops mail order catalogue, as well as in Missouri by the Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World store, from August 1994 through December 1994 for approximately $50. Consumers should stop using the tree stands immediately and contact Bass Pro Shops at (800) 554-5488 to receive a free replacement buckle and gray nylon strap, or return the stand to the store of purchase for replacement parts.
