Plain-English summary
Hydro-Air Industries is recalling approximately 206,000 main drain covers (model 10-6200) installed in spas, hot tubs, and swimming pools between 1980 and 1995. The recalled drain covers are white circular plastic discs, 6 inches in diameter, featuring 18 rectangular openings on top. The text "Hydro Air P/N 10-6200" is imprinted on the top of the cover.
The recall is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) because the drain covers pose a drowning hazard. Under certain circumstances, a bather's head can be held underwater if their hair becomes entangled in the drain cover while water and hair are drawn through the drain. Hydro-Air is aware of two drownings and one near-drowning resulting from hair getting trapped in the drain cover.
Consumers should inspect their spas, hot tubs, and swimming pools to determine if the model 10-6200 drain cover is installed. If the cover is present, consumers should immediately stop using the water feature and contact Hydro-Air at (800) 230-9560 to receive a free replacement part. Swimming pool owners can contact the same number for guidance on the inspection process. Consumers should not use the water feature until the replacement part is installed. If use occurs before replacement, extreme caution is required, including keeping long hair away from the drain, wearing a bathing cap, and supervising children closely.
