What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (entrapment hazard) where injury has not yet been reported, which aligns with the 'High' severity criteria.

Plain-English summary

Waterway Plastics is recalling approximately 26,000 Designer Pro Series suction covers with model number 640-52XX S. These round, black and silver covers were installed in select spas manufactured by Catalina Spas, Four Winds Spas, Dimension One Spas, and Sunrise Spas between June 2011 and June 2013. The covers were sold through pool and spa dealers nationwide for between $3,500 and $16,000.

The recall is being issued because the drain suction cover can become disengaged from the spa wall, posing an entrapment hazard to consumers. The firm has received 70 reports of drain covers detaching, but no injuries have been reported.

Consumers should immediately stop using spas with the recalled drain covers. They should contact Waterway Plastics toll-free at (866) 719-6044 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday, or visit www.waterwayplastics.com and click on "Recall" under Resources for inspection instructions and information on receiving a free replacement cover.
