What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has been reported (cuts and burns), but no fatalities or severe injuries are documented, fitting the High severity criteria.

Plain-English summary

Braun Inc. is voluntarily recalling 5,000 E20 and E25 espresso/cappuccino makers, type 3058, with production codes 426 through 450. The recall addresses a defect where the filter holder may dislodge under pressure if pushed past the maximum setting. This failure can break the glass coffee carafe, posing a risk of cuts from broken glass, as well as burns from escaping steam or spilled coffee grounds.

The affected machines were sold nationwide from August 1994 through December 1994 for between $49 and $69. Braun has received 16 reports of the filter holder dislodging, which resulted in three injuries, including a cut and burns. The machines are made in Switzerland and feature a production code stamped on the bottom of the base.

Consumers should stop using the affected machines and contact Braun at (800) 933-8363, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to obtain a replacement filter holder, revised instruction sheets, and product labels.
