The hazard exists if the filter holders are not properly and firmly positioned. Under pressure, the holders may dislodge, releasing steam and coffee grounds, and in some circumstances, breaking the glass carafes below. This can result in burns, cuts, scratches, or other personal injuries. CPSC was informed of this situation by Braun following 52 consumer reports, which included 13 reported injuries.

Consumers who returned warranty registration cards are being sent written notifications. Retail stores are also being notified. Braun is providing free written notices and labels to be affixed to the espresso makers to guide proper positioning of the filter holder handle.
