Plain-English summary
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and International Silver Company are voluntarily recalling approximately 33,000 "Tree Shaped 7 Light Votive Holder" candle holders. The product consists of a silver-plated, tree-shaped wire frame measuring 12.75 inches high and 13.75 inches wide at the base, packaged with four green and three red small glass pots for votive candles. The hazard is that the small glass pots may overheat and shatter.
International Silver Company received seven reports of the glass pots shattering, including one incident where a consumer's leg was injured. The candle holders were sold nationwide in major retail department and gift stores from September 1995 through December 1995 for prices ranging from $19.99 to $24.99. The Home Shopping Network (HSN) also sold the product and has begun notifying its consumers. A similar product sold by another company was previously recalled on December 18, 1995.
Consumers should stop using the candle holders immediately and return them to the store of purchase for a full refund. Consumers in Massachusetts can contact International Silver Company's Risk Manager at (617) 568-1590, while those outside Massachusetts can call toll-free at (800) 667-5743.
