Plain-English summary

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and two importers are recalling more than 32,000 Santa candle holders and potpourri simmer pots that pose fire hazards. Division Sales Inc. is recalling approximately 10,000 ceramic Santa Claus Candle Holders (item 66539) because the paint on the holders is flammable. These items were sold through dollar-type stores nationwide from October 1995 through November 1996 for about $1. Division Sales is not aware of any injuries involving these candle holders.

New Design Inc. is recalling approximately 22,000 porcelain Potpourri Simmer Pots because the accompanying candles generate excessive flames. The pots, shaped as an angel, santa bear, or snowman, were sold through retail outlets nationwide during the Fall of 1996 for about $3. New Design has received four reports of excessive flaming, with three reports involving minor property damage, but no injuries have been reported.

Additionally, Giftco Inc. is issuing a warning regarding 29,000 Candy House Candle Holders sold through various fund-raising organizations nationwide during the Fall of 1996 for about $10. Some holders were shipped with defective votive candles that reportedly generate excessive flames. Giftco has received two reports of the defective candle setting the holder on fire, with no injuries reported. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled items and return them to the store of purchase for a refund, or discard the defective votive candles and replace them with safe alternatives.
