Plain-English summary

Godinger Silver Art Co. Ltd. is recalling approximately 31,000 tree-shaped candle holders in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall involves circular, tree-shaped holders made of silver-plated wire, measuring 14.5 inches high and 7.5 inches wide at the base, with style number 1731 on the packaging. These products were sold nationwide in major retail department and gift stores from October 1996 through December 1996 for approximately $25.

The candle holders contain small glass pots that can overheat and shatter, presenting a fire hazard. Godinger has received two reports of the glass pots cracking while in use, which released burning wicks and melting wax. These incidents resulted in fire damage to a table surface and to carpets. No injuries have been reported.

Consumers should immediately stop using the candle holders and return them to the store where purchased for a full refund. For more information, consumers can call Godinger at (800) 544-2209 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday.
