Plain-English summary

Target Corp. is recalling about 16,000 metal oil burning candles sold in the United States. The recall was issued because the glass portion of the candles can shatter, which creates a fire hazard. The candles are made in China and come in two shapes: circular and rectangular. The glass is supported by a black metal frame, with a lower piece holding the oil reservoir and a top piece holding the wick.

Target received six reports of the candles shattering, including three reports of minor property damage. There have been no injuries reported. The circular candles measure 6.25 inches in diameter and sold for $8, while the rectangular candles measure 5.5 inches by 13.5 inches and sold for $15.

These candles were sold at Target stores nationwide from January 2000 through May 2000. Consumers should stop using these candles immediately and return them to the nearest Target store for a refund. For additional information, consumers can call Target at (800) 440-0680 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.
