Plain-English summary

PetSmart is expanding its recall of 1.75-gallon glass fish bowls shaped like brandy snifters. The bowls were sold under the Grreat Choice or Top Fin brand names with SKU number 5140161 and UPC code 737257187092. The recall covers approximately 81,300 units in the U.S. and 4,000 in Canada, in addition to 10,200 units previously recalled in the U.S. and 1,000 in Canada.

The glass fish bowls can crack, shatter, or break during normal handling, posing a laceration hazard to consumers. PetSmart has received 20 new reports of the bowls breaking during normal use, including 14 additional reports of cuts to fingers and hands. Seven of these cuts required stitches, and three required surgery for lacerated tendons.

These fish bowls were sold at PetSmart stores nationwide from March 2010 through September 2013 for about $20. Consumers should immediately stop using the fish bowls and return them to any PetSmart store for a full refund. Caution should be used when handling the bowls for return due to the hazard.
