Plain-English summary
Jomaps Inc. is voluntarily recalling approximately 14,000 quart bottles and 11,000 gallon cans of M-1 Deck and Roof Cleaner. The recall was initiated after the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) laboratory analysis revealed that the product contains high levels of sodium hydroxide. The product was not packaged in accordance with the Federal Hazardous Substances Act, specifically lacking necessary warning labels, cautions for use, and guidelines for appropriate first aid in the event of an accident.
The cleaner was sold from March 1994 to March 1995 at Home Depot stores nationwide and at a few small paint stores. It was sold in one-quart plastic bottles for about $5 and in one-gallon cans for about $21. The packaging featured a yellow and red label with the text "M-1 Deck Roof 'CLEANER'...Concentrate... Cleans and Restores...DANGER Eye and Skin Irritant...See additional cautions on back panel." To date, Jomaps Inc. and CPSC have not received reports of accidents or injuries associated with the product.
Consumers should immediately discontinue use of the item and return it to the store where purchased for a full refund. For more information, consumers can call Jomaps Inc. toll free at (800) 966-6175. Jomaps Inc. has altered the packaging to comply with the Federal Hazardous Substances Act, and products with the new label are currently sold in stores.
