What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Plain-English summary
PPG Architectural Finishes is voluntarily recalling approximately 420,000 jugs of Olympic Deck Cleaner in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall involves 1-gallon and 2.5-gallon beige jugs with green caps. The defect involves the caps used to seal the plastic jugs, which can allow air pressure to build up. This pressure can cause the cleaner to seep past the cap or be expelled when the cap is removed.
Direct contact with the product can cause eye damage or skin irritation. PPG Architectural Finishes has received one consumer report and three reports from stores noting that containers had bulged or seeped. No injuries have been reported.
The recalled deck cleaner was sold nationwide at home improvement centers, hardware stores, and lumber yards from June 1998 through June 1999. Affected units have batch codes beginning with 06C, 07C, 08C, 09C, 10C, 11C, 12C, 01D, 02D, 03D, 04D, 05D, or 06D, stamped on the back of the jug. Consumers with this unused deck cleaner should not open the containers and should call PPG Architectural Finishes toll-free at (888) 774-7332 for information about obtaining a free replacement cap. Jugs with beige-colored caps are not part of this recall.
