The recall is due to extreme temperatures generated by the metal halide lamps, which can cause severe distortion or deformation of the socket to stem attachment hardware. This can result in the lamp housing separating and falling from the stem attachment. Fifteen fixtures reportedly fell from ceilings in New Jersey, Michigan, and Arkansas between August 1988 and March 1990. Although no injuries have been reported, the company believes the remaining unlocated fixtures may be defective and could eventually fall.
