Plain-English summary
Orion International Corporation is voluntarily recalling rattle-style bottle caps designed for 'Para Mi Bebe' bath soap and cologne for infants. The recall is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) because testing showed that the plastic caps could shatter, releasing small beads and plastic pieces that present a potential choking hazard to infants.
The affected products were sold from November 1987 through October 5, 1988, as screw-on caps for Baby Cologne #30618, Baby Bath #30619, and Baby Set #30633. The ball-shaped rattle caps were available in blue and pink with a gold band around the diameter. Approximately 22,248 Baby Cologne caps, 1,104 Baby Bath caps, and 1,992 Baby Set caps were sold in New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Florida, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Washington, D.C. Neither the CPSC nor Orion International is aware of any injuries associated with these caps.
Consumers should not allow infants to use the rattle bottle caps and should remove them from the containers. The caps can be exchanged at the store of purchase for non-rattle caps. The hazardous caps were identified by the U.S. Customs Service at the Port of Miami, Florida, as part of the 'Operation Toyland' surveillance program.
