Plain-English summary
Toys R Us is voluntarily recalling eight "Crib Pals Rattles" because they failed to meet the mandatory standard for rattles and may pose a choking hazard to young children. The recalled items include one "Kitty Cat Lion Rattle" and a set of seven "Playtime Pals" rattles. The specific units are the "Crib Pals # V-2402, Kitty Cat Lion Rattle - SKN23970" and the "Crib Pals #RS-7, Playtime Pals - SKN234974" set. The Kitty Cat Lion Rattle is a 3 1/2 inch round, yellow plastic face of a cat with a red pull handle; the nose may separate from the rattle. The Playtime Pals set includes a Musical Chime, Li'l Fish Bath Toy, Dial 'N Rattle, Squeaky Rattle, Star Rattle, Happy Horn Rattle, and Trumpet Time. The Star Rattle and Musical Chime from the set failed the requirements for rattles.
The recalled rattles were sold in Toys R Us stores nationwide. The Kitty Cat Lion Rattle was sold from October 1987 to August 1988 for $3.99 each, with approximately 2,500 units sold. The Playtime Pals set was sold from November 1987 to July 1988 for $16.99, with approximately 13,000 sets sold. The products are made of yellow, red, blue, and white plastic, with "Royal" and/or "Japan" printed on each. The Kitty Cat Lion Rattle is imprinted with "Made in Japan" on the back.
Consumers having any of the recalled rattles should immediately take them away from children and return them to the nearest Toys R Us store for a refund of the full purchase price. Consumers who have concerns about the recall should contact Toys R Us at 1-800-548-0364.
