The hazard involves fabric fasteners on the canopy side panels that can detach, leaving an open space when the seat back is reclined through which an infant's head or body can fall.
Fisher-Price has received 17 complaints that children's heads or arms protruded through the opening, and in two cases, infants fell from the stroller. Although no serious injuries have been reported to date, the company is taking corrective action to prevent this possibility. Models produced after July 1, 1986, are not affected because they feature a fabric liner stitched in place.
Consumers can identify affected strollers by the date of manufacture printed on the label on the back of the seat; only those dated prior to July 15, 1986, are subject to the program. Fisher-Price will provide a free modification kit that closes the opening while allowing the use of the multi-position seat back feature. Until the kit is installed, consumers should not use the strollers with the seat back reclined.
