Fisher-Price is recalling approximately 42,000 Smart Response infant swings sold nationwide from December 2001 through March 2002. The recall is due to a defect where the swing seats can be misassembled, appearing secure when they are not properly attached. If the seat is not correctly attached, the seat and the baby can flip forward.
Fisher-Price has received seven reports of the swing seats flipping forward, including four reports of babies hitting their heads on the floor. While bumps and red marks were reported, the company states there have been no serious injuries. The affected swings are indoor infant swings for use from birth until the baby can sit up unassisted, featuring metal legs in blue or beige and seats in beige or white.
Consumers should stop using the swings immediately and call Fisher-Price at (800) 942-5912 for help inspecting the seat to ensure it is properly attached. If the seat is not properly attached, Fisher-Price will provide a free replacement seat and revised instructions. The product numbers 79644, 79645, or 79647 are molded onto the back of the seat.
