Plain-English summary
Norelco Consumer Products Division is voluntarily recalling rechargeable electric shaver stands included with model HP 1337 and HP 1323 shavers produced in 1986. The recall is due to a possible shock or minor burn hazard that occurs when the cord is initially plugged into the wall while connected to the stand. Shaver stands produced before 1986 are not known to contain this hazard.
Norelco has reported 30 incidents where the cord shorted out upon initial use, with approximately 4 reports of minor personal injury. Approximately 500,000 shavers were distributed nationwide, with an estimated 60,000 stands reaching consumers in 1986. The affected stands are black with the word "ROTATRACT" printed in white lettering.
Consumers with a new Norelco shaver with a stand should not plug it in. They should return the stand only, not the shaver or the cord, to Norelco Service, Inc. in Fullerton, CA, for a replacement and postage refund. The shaver can continue to be used with the cord while the stand is being serviced.
