The recall involves units with a detachable hand vacuum and free-standing charger that have "VOLTS 9.6V D.C." printed on the serial plate on the underside of the handheld unit. Specific serial numbers affected are 074000001 through 085100001 and 74000001 through 85100001. The affected models include EL1000A, EL1000B, EL1000BX, EL1000BZ, PE1000B, EL1005A, and EL1006A.

The vacuum's battery can expand and burst, which poses a risk of injury to the user and bystanders. Electrolux has received 34 reports of incidents in the U.S. involving damage to the vacuum and surrounding property. The vacuums were sold at major and independent retailers nationwide from November 2007 through March 2009 for about $100.
