Evenflo Li'l Squeaker Pacifiers Recalled for Choking Hazard

Evenflo is recalling Li'l Squeaker pacifiers made in Taiwan because the pacifier can detach from the shield, posing a choking risk.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (choking/suffocation) where injury has not yet been reported, which aligns with the 'High' severity criteria in the rubric.

Plain-English summary

Evenflo Products Company is voluntarily recalling approximately 16,000 Li'l Squeaker pacifiers in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall affects pacifiers manufactured in Taiwan, which can be identified by "Taiwan" printed on the underside of the shield or "Made in Taiwan" on the blister card. These pacifiers feature orange, blue, or yellow round shields with three vent holes and a white squeaker on the handle end. Pacifiers made in Hong Kong are not involved.

CPSC laboratory tests indicate that on some of these pacifiers, the nipple can be pulled from the shield, creating a potential suffocation and choking hazard. Although no incidents have been reported involving these specific pacifiers, CPSC and Evenflo determined that the potential for injury warrants a recall in the public interest.

Consumers who purchased these pacifiers between October and December 1983 should stop using them immediately. They may return the pacifiers to their place of purchase for a full refund or send them directly to Evenflo Products Company at 771 North Freedom Street, Ravenna, Ohio 44266, for a full refund including postage. For more information, consumers can call CPSC's toll-free hotline at 800-638-CPSC.
