The separation was identified during CPSC structural integrity testing, which involved boiling the pacifier and applying pull forces to the handle. The affected pacifiers feature a rigid plastic shield with three vent holes and the words "MADE IN JAPAN" embossed on the surface. The shields are available in pink and blue, and the rubber nipple and handle include a silver-colored metal squeaker on the end. These pacifiers were sold between January and June 1984.

Although no incidents involving these specific pacifiers have been reported, CPSC and Binky-Griptight determined that the potential for injury warrants this public warning. Consumers should discontinue use of the product. Retailers are instructed to stop selling the item and contact the manufacturer. The product will be replaced by a new Model 593, which is marked "new" above the model number and features a white plastic squeaker instead of the metal one.
