Matrix T1 and T3 Commercial Treadmills Fire Hazard Expansion Recall

Johnson Health Tech North America is expanding its recall of Matrix T1 and T3 Series commercial treadmills due to a fire hazard from loose power cords. About 9,700 additional units are affected.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a fire hazard with seven reported fires and two reported instances of property damage, meeting the "Severe" criterion for significant property-damage reports. Although no injuries are reported, the demonstrated pattern of fires across multiple units since the prior 2022 recall establishes material risk.

Plain-English summary

Johnson Health Tech North America Inc. is expanding a recall of Matrix T1 and T3 Series commercial treadmills due to a fire hazard involving the power cord. The power cord can become loose from the treadmill's power socket, posing a fire risk.

The recalled treadmills include the T1xe, T3x, and T3xm models, manufactured from March 2018 through January 2024. These units were sold nationwide through Johnson Health Tech North America and Johnson Fitness & Wellness stores between March 2018 and January 2024 for between $3,400 and $8,900.

Since the previous January 2022 recall, Matrix Fitness has received one additional report of a fire in a fitness facility related to the power cord and socket sparking, smoking, and/or melting. In total, 59 incidents have been reported (including the 58 from the January 2022 recall), with seven resulting in fire and two resulting in property damage. No injuries have been reported.

Exercise facilities should inspect their treadmills to confirm whether a power cord bracket is installed. If the bracket is not already present, facilities should ensure the power cord is fully inserted into the power socket before each use until the unit is repaired. Consumers should contact Johnson Health Tech North America toll-free at 866-218-3674 (8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday), email [email protected], or visit https://matrixfitness.com/us/eng/recalls or www.matrixfitness.com (click "Recalls") to schedule a free power cord bracket installation or order one for self-installation.
