Plain-English summary

HP Inc. is expanding a recall of approximately 78,500 lithium-ion batteries for commercial notebook computers and mobile workstations. This expansion follows a previous recall of 50,000 units in the U.S. in January 2018. The affected batteries were shipped with or sold as accessories for specific HP ProBooks, HPx360, HP Pavilion x360, HP 11 Notebook PC, and HP ZBook models between December 2015 and April 2018. Replacement batteries were also sold separately until December 2018.

The recall is due to a hazard where the lithium-ion batteries can overheat, posing fire and burn risks. HP has received eight new reports in the U.S. of battery packs overheating, melting, or charring. These reports include one instance of minor injury and two reports of property damage totaling $1,100.

Consumers should immediately visit www.HP.com/go/batteryprogram2018 to check if their battery is included in the recall. The website provides instructions to enable "Battery Safety Mode" and initiate a validation utility. Because these batteries are not customer-replaceable, HP will provide free battery replacement services by an authorized technician. Consumers can also contact HP toll-free at 866-671-7362 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. CT Monday through Friday.
