The recall is being issued because the batteries can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards. HP has received one additional report of a battery overheating, melting, and charring, which caused approximately $1,000 in property damage. This expanded recall includes an additional 41,000 batteries previously recalled in June 2016, with about 3,000 sold in Canada and 4,000 in Mexico.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled batteries and remove them from their notebook computers. They should contact HP for a free replacement battery. Until a replacement is received, consumers should use the notebook computer by plugging it into AC power only.
