What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (loss of control leading to falls) where the source text explicitly states that no injuries have been reported, which aligns with the 'High' severity criteria for unreported injury risks.
Plain-English summary
Cabrinha Kites, a subsidiary of Pryde Group Americas, is recalling about 2,900 kiteboard control systems. The recall involves specific 2017 models, including the Overdrive 1X Recoil, Overdrive 1X Trimlite, 1X Trimlite, and Chaos 1X Control system, equipped with Fireball or Quickloop configurations. The affected component is the stainless steel POWER BRACKET SEAT (PBS) and the lower front line that connects with the landing line.
The recall was initiated because the point of connection between the lower front line and the landing line can break. This failure can cause a loss of kite control, posing injury and fall hazards to the user. The company has received six reports of the stainless steel PBS component breaking, but no injuries have been reported.
These products were sold at watersports stores nationwide from July 2016 through March 2017 for about $550. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled kiteboard control systems. They should return the products to the place of purchase to receive a free replacement kit with an instructional guide. A video demonstrating the installation of the replacement plastic power-bracket is available online.
