Plain-English summary
Cree Inc. is recalling approximately 104,000 LED T8 Replacement Lamps sold in the United States and 8,500 in Canada. The recall includes lamps sold at Home Depot and Amazon.com from September 2015 through May 2016, as well as free replacement lamps provided to consumers during a previous recall in June 2015. These white, cylindrical lamps measure 48 inches long and are used indoors to replace traditional two-pin T8 fluorescent tubes.
The recalled lamps can overheat and melt, which poses a burn hazard. Cree has received 12 reports of the lamps overheating and melting, but no injuries have been reported.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled lamps, disconnect or switch off the fixture, and remove the lamp. They should place the lamp in a safe location and contact Cree to receive a full refund. Consumers who received free replacement lamps as part of the previous 2015 recall should also stop using those lamps and contact Cree.
