Plain-English summary

Royal Appliance Mfg. Co. is recalling approximately 149,000 Dirt Devil Total Pet Cyclonic Upright vacuums in the United States and about 9,700 in Canada. The recall covers models UD70210, UD70210CA, and UD70210RM manufactured between February 2014 and September 2015. These vacuums have black, gray, and clear housings with red and purple trim, and the words "Total Pet" printed under the Dirt Devil logo. Only units with a four-digit manufacture date code beginning with B14 through I15 are included in the recall.

The hazard involves the electric cord plug prong, which can detach and remain in the electrical outlet when the vacuum is unplugged. This detached prong can pose an electrical shock hazard if it remains connected to the outlet. The company has received 14 reports of a detached prong remaining in an outlet, but no injuries have been reported.

The vacuums were sold at ABC Warehouse, Boardman Furniture, Fred's, and Walmart stores nationwide, as well as online through Dirt Devil, eBay, and Walmart.com from February 2014 through November 2015 for between $45 and $70. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled vacuums and contact Dirt Devil at 800-373-6290 or online at www.dirtdevil.com to receive a free replacement vacuum.
