The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is recalling the Dirt Devil Scorpion Turbo Quick Flip Hand Vac Turbo Tool Accessory. The recall involves approximately 22,000 units sold in the United States and 2,500 units in Canada. The accessory is a plastic, clear yellowish-green attachment with a black turbine fan and brush roll, sold with the corded hand vacuum from January 2012 through February 2015.

The hazard exists because the interior fan of the Turbo Tool accessory can break and eject from the tool housing, posing a laceration hazard to the user or bystanders. Royal Appliance Manufacturing Co. has received six reports of the accessory breaking, but no injuries have been reported.

Consumers should immediately stop using the Turbo Tool accessory and contact Royal Appliance for instructions on receiving a free replacement tool accessory. The hand vacuum itself can continue to be used without the turbo tool attachment. Affected units are identified by the "Royal" brand, model number "08225," and a five-digit manufacture date code ending in 12A U, 13A U, 13B U, or 14B U printed on the label on the bottom of the hand vacuum.
