Skip Hop Recalls Crib Mobiles Due to Injury Hazard
Skip Hop is recalling Moonlight & Melodies projection crib mobiles because the strap attaching the product to the crib rail can break, posing an injury hazard if the product falls on an infant.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (falling crib mobile) where the hazard is explicitly stated but no injuries have been reported, which aligns with the 'High' severity criteria for risk-of-harm products without reported injury.
Plain-English summary
Skip Hop Inc. is recalling about 3,500 Moonlight & Melodies projection crib mobiles sold in the United States, with an additional 850 units sold in Canada. The recalled mobiles feature a white plastic arm that attaches to the side of a crib, four blinking, glowing leaves with stuffed animal attachments, and a projector that plays lullabies and projects stars. The dangling stuffed animals include a giraffe, turtle, monkey, and owl. The mobiles measure 17.5 inches long by 14 inches wide by 22 inches tall, and the model number 185509 is printed on the back of the base.
The recall is due to a hazard where the strap attaching the mobile to the crib rail can break. If the strap breaks, the mobile can fall on an infant in the crib, posing an injury hazard. Skip Hop has received 8 reports of the strap breaking, but no injuries have been reported.
The mobiles were sold at Babies R Us, Buy Buy Baby, and other independent juvenile specialty stores nationwide, as well as online at Amazon.com and skiphop.com, from July 2015 to November 2015 for about $65. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled mobiles and contact Skip Hop for instructions on receiving a $75 coupon towards the purchase of a new Skip Hop product. Consumers can contact Skip Hop toll-free at 877-475-4746 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, by email at [email protected], or online at www.skiphop.com under "Safety Notices" in the "Customer Care" section.
