Plain-English summary

Segway Inc. is recalling approximately 17 off-board chargers for Segway Personal Transporters (PT). The recall involves chargers manufactured from November 2012 to November 2014 with part number 23288-00001. The affected units are black, box-shaped devices measuring 8 inches wide by 13.75 inches deep by 4 inches high. Specific serial numbers are listed on the CPSC website, and the serial and part numbers are located on a silver data plate on the bottom of the charger.

The recall is being issued because a wire inside the charger can detach and touch the side of the unit, posing an electric shock hazard. Segway has not reported any injuries or illnesses associated with the use of these chargers.

The affected chargers were sold through authorized Segway dealers and distributors, and directly from Segway Inc., from November 2012 through September 2015 for approximately $920. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled chargers and unplug them. They should contact Segway or the dealer from whom the charger was purchased to receive a free replacement power cord equipped with a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI). Segway is also contacting consumers directly.
