What this means for you

Plain-English summary

Double Insight Inc. is recalling approximately 1,000 Instant Pot 'Smart' and 'Smart-60' electric pressure cookers sold in the United States, with an additional 140 units sold in Canada. The recall involves stainless steel pressure cookers with black molded plastic attachments, a front control panel, and Bluetooth capabilities. Affected units have serial numbers between 1410 and 1503 and manufacture dates between December 1, 2014, and June 1, 2015, which are printed on a label on the bottom of the base.

The recall is due to a hazard where the thermal probe in the base can conduct electricity throughout the cooker, posing a risk of electric shock. The firm has received reports from three consumers who were shocked while using the pressure cooker. The products were sold online at Instantpot.com and Amazon.com from November 2014 through May 2015 for about $250.

Consumers should stop using the recalled product immediately and contact Instant Pot for instructions to receive a free replacement base, which includes the entire bottom of the pressure cooker and the control panel. The firm is contacting all purchasers directly. Consumers can also reach Instant Pot at (800) 828-7280 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday, or visit instantpot.com and click on "Instant Pot Smart recall" under "Useful Information" for more details.
